I was one of those women who, when asked "what do you do," would respond with the standard, "oh, I'm just a stay at home mom." Looking back I cannot believe I ever thought that way. Moms are the backbone of our nation. We shape the lives of our future leaders. We are their teachers, mentors, and counselors. We are not "just stay at home moms." We are the sculptors of a nation. We are the foundation of liberty.
Although there was never a doubt that I would major in Political Science in college I never actually expected that I would go to work in the field. My first love is being home with my family. I have always been politically engaged but not politically employed. If you know me, you know that Sarah Palin's VP candidacy changed my life (that story can be found as my first blog post). Since that time I have had the great honor of working with a number of people who are committed to retaking this nation and restoring the Conservative values that form the foundation of our country.
My work with various Conservative candidates and grass roots organizations like Americans for Prosperity and Arkansas Unite has been inspiring and uplifting. I am proud to say that all of the work I have done has been from the heart and for causes I believe in. I have never tailored my opinions to a party platform or an outlined agenda. I am fortunate that I have the ability to choose where I take my political career and not vise-versa.
I want every mother, and everyone who knows a mother to recognize that we are not abandoning our families by becoming politically engaged at a higher level. If Conservative women continue to feel guilty for their views and positions then our future leaders will be shaped by the vocal opposition who continue to break down the traditional values we want our children to live by. Be proud of your beliefs. Teach your children to be proud of what you teach them. When they excel in expressing what you have taught them, praise them! Do not teach your children timidness and fear of a leftist educational system. I would rather my child get an F on a good paper that expresses informed honesty than an A on a paper that kowtows to a progressive, liberal professor.
Be strong. Be vocal. Get engaged. Lead by example mommies of the world!
