NObama in the classroom

I learned this morning that Obama plans to beam himself into every classroom in America on September 8, 2009. The text for the address to the children is nowhere to be found. However, the document outlining what teachers should discuss with their students before, during, and after the presentation has been published. In this document teachers are asked to discuss:

  • What new ideas and actions is the President challenging me to think about?
  • What specific job is he asking me to do?

Teachers are also asked to encourage students to:

  • Write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president. These would be collected and redistributed at an appropriate later date by the teacher to make students accountable to their goals.

Where is the outrage? What if Bush had tried something like this?

Why can't I find the text of this speech anywhere?

If the President wants to address my children, he can do so in the evening when they are with their parents and able to discuss the issues. The political minds of elementary school students are not to be shaped by liberal teachers beholden to NEA. I concede, not all teachers are liberal and there are even liberal teacher who temper their views in the classroom, as any good teacher should. However, I ask you, what will be the consequences for a teacher who engages this planned discussion with their students incorporating a Conservative slant? Will the teacher who engages this same discussion with a liberal slant be held equally accountable? I posit that the answer to the latter question is no.

We have not been notified whether or not our children's school will be participating in Obama's presentation. Our kids attend private school and I would like to believe that the school will not be participating. However, I am not prepared to take the chance on that assumption. Below, you will find the letter I wrote to the school. I encourage each of you to write your own letters and send a message to the administration that we will not tolerate indoctrination of our children by any President or elected official.

Secondary Dean Jones and Elementary Dean Foley,

Parents of Shiloh Christian have not been made aware as to whether or not the school plans to broadcast "Obama's Address to Students Across America" during school next week on September 8th. We feel it is inappropriate for any U.S. President to ask children for their help in a political agenda, especially, in the absence of their parents. For your reference, I have linked a copy of the document that has been sent to schools across the nation explaining to teachers what they should discuss with students before, during, and after the speech. http://www.docstoc.com/docs/10582301/President-Obama%E2%80%99s-Address-to-Students-Across-America-September-8-2009

I encourage Shiloh to opt out of showing this program to the students. If the President would like to address my children about what they can do to help him then he may do so in the evening hours when we are together as a family to discuss the issues.

If Shiloh is prepared to broadcast this speech, we ask that you excuse our children ***** Buhajla and **** Buhajla to the library during that time. We do not give permission for them to view the speech nor to engage in any dialogue regarding the President's presentation at school.

Thank you for understanding.

Sincerely,
Joe and Stefani Buhajla

UPDATE: I received an email from Shiloh stating that they do not plan to participate in the Obama presentation.

I heard a wonderful idea this morning on Glenn Beck from a caller. Call your school district's Superintendent and politely suggest that the number of students who will be kept home from school, should they air the Obama speech, will be significant. Schools are paid by the number of students they have in attendance. Less students = less revenue.

Stefani's thoughts on Conservatism

My husband Joe and I live in NW Arkansas with our three children Anna, Ethan, and Hallie. We firmly believe in Conservative values and apply them to our lives while teaching our children about how to preserve those values for their own children.
